Back on the road

Back on the road. Martin and Emily are honeymooning in Belize, and the wedding was beautiful. Emily’s mom and family did all the cooking and it was in their backyard which is in the desert. I got to see my great friends Marlee and Ed from Virginia, all my siblings and nieces and nephews (except one). I got to play my harp, including a song I composed for them. But most important, Martin and Emily enjoyed themselves and were very gracious to everyone.

I can’t believe I thought it was a good idea to fly back to Lima two days later. What a scramble! When I got to Peru in July, the public schools were on vacation, and now that I am back, the teachers are on strike, so it’s been a bust trying to talk to schools here. So I’ll be heading south to Chile pretty quickly. The pictures are of Lima and walking south to Barrancos crossing the bridge of sighs.

When I left Lima, I asked for a suspension of the permit to have my car here (it was only good for 90 days), so it should have started again Oct. 28th when I got back. I worried that if it wasn’t approved, I might have a big fine to get out of the country. It was approved, but customs in Lima say I need a letter from customs in Tumbes (where I entered), and Tumbes say that I need it from Lima. Remember the man named Charlie and the Boston underground, so did she ever return? Stay tuned. Probably just as well, since the car had no power after running it about 2 blocks. The distributor cap has been replaced, and next is the fuel pump. The brakes need some checking too. It’s ironic to think most of my problems on this trip have been caused by the support vehicle.

  1. Sorry to hear about your vehicle problems during the trip. I guess it just adds up to the excitement of your trip. Congratulations to both of you!
