  1. Hello,

My name is Dan Watman and I’ve worked with Proyecto Fronterizo on several ocasions. Last year we planted a bi-national garden. My group, basically, has events with different themes at the border fence (exactly where you will start your march) and we have as many as 200 people attending for some events on both sides socializing through the fence. I think your walk is amazing (I just heard about it from the Proyecto Fronterizo folks) and wanted to do some type of send off event at the border fence for you on the 9th. Please contact me at bordermeetup@gmail.com or 619.954.9710.

    gracias, Dan

  2. Dear Rolene,
Jessica was at Potluck on Sunday and let me know you are leaving to start your extraordinary journey. I send you a great hug and love, and deep regrets that I have been so absent a friend. Please know that you are in my thoughts, and those of Charlie and Jessica, and that we believe your vision and determination are inspirational and meaningful beyond words! I hope there will be a time during this amazing journey when I can at least join you for a while. That’s MY dream!
    Love, Marian

  3. Greetings to you
I am looking out at our mother mountain Wharariki as I write this message of love and strength to you. I will be going down to our sacred river Waikirikiri to send you prayers of love and strength and release them to the waters which flow out into our beloved Pacific Ocean to touch the shores of your island, the Turtle as you begin your walk. It is 8.30 a.m. Monday March 10 here so it will be 11.30 a.m. Sunday March 9 where you are.
We send you the love and courage of our people of Waitaha and all I speak to of your journey are in awe and send you their best wishs also.
Take care my dear sister. We will whisper your name in our daily prayers.

  5. Hey Rolene:

I teach English and Creative Writing at Moorpark. Danita Redd passed on this link via our campus email.

I’ve just read your blog — what an amazing and demanding trip. Somehow it’s always that combination for anything worthwhile, although that won’t be much comfort against those biting flies!

    Sending you much encouragement!

  6. Querida Sra. Walker:

    Respetuosamente

You walk sustains us all in spirit and maybe a possibility our friends at Marin Interfaith Task Force who lead wonderful visits to the Americas can be informed of this wonderful project and support and/or meet you on the way-they are in Brazil, Ecuador Venezuela so would have to meet you at places but maybe I am speaking for my own heart’s desire. 9. Hi Rolene,

    Happy New Year.

I am very belatedly thinking I need to connect you with my friend who does an environmental organization in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala. You are likely to be close now, to her.

I am not able to give other’s addresses on an open message board, but the group is K’aslem Mandala, and I think they have a website, so google it, or e-mail me privately for more info.

  10. Hola Rolene,
I have just arrived from New Zealand to work for at least 6 months in Guatemala with PROGRESA’s community development programme. I hearfrom Manuel that you were here the week before I arrived. I am really sorry to have missed you. What an inspiring project and journey your are on. I would love to connect with you and I would love to walk with you for a few days. I read from your diary that you are not to far away- just south of Guatemala City, so I am hoping that there may be a possibility that I join you. I am staying with Martha in Antigua at the moment. Please let me know what is possible next week or the week after. I am keen to meet and walk.

    In Peace and Friendship,
    Saskia

  12. Dear Rolene,
It has been some time since I contacted you. (I talked to you and Jorge at the Quaker Conference at the University of Redlands). To give you an image of me, I am the black woman with long locks who frequently volunteered at Casa de Los Amigos in D.F. I am a friend of Jorge albeit I have not heard from him for some time. The last time I heard from him, he indicated that he was planning to go on the walk with you. I hope he is OK. At the end of the month I am going to make a donation to Walk With Earth through PayPal.I intend to join you during the summer after the end of June. In the meanwhile, I am trying to connect with some of my friends in D.F. through Nick at the Casa. I will ask Nick to update me on or help me get in touch with Jorge. I wish all you good health and good walking. I will be back in touch with you at the end of April.

  13. Hi Rolene,

    Paz contigo.

Everyday I think of you and send good wishes to you all. I meet a lovely young woman a couple of years ago named Darcy. Is she still walking with you?

When June arrives, I will see where you all are located. I am not sure when I’ll be coming. It could be this summer or it could be in December. I believe I could join you for at least one week albeit it could be longer if my son has plans to be with relatives while I am gone. In the meanwhile, I left something at Paypal to help a young person participate. I am also working to spread the news among my teaching colleagues and students. I do know one Spanish Professor who would like to join you albeit she was hoping you would have been in Peru a while back. I will update her on your location. Did you ever get the support you need in Santiago, Chile? Please let me know. One of my close friends is a native of Santiago and at one point he offered to get some names and contacts for you. I will ask him for his help if you would like for me to do so. Also, I am now in semi-regular contact Nick at “The Casa”. I will call Jorge after the H1N1 situation has subsided some more. The Casa has asked people to stay at home for a while. They may have reopened today. I’ll see… At some point I would like to interview you for my students trying to choose a major and career. I have them do a couple of readings about volunteerism and the environment. I will be changing the readings to the topic of sustainability. I also want to include some essays about water as a precious resource. Caminar en paz. Danita

  14. Estimada Rolene:

  15. Dear Rolene,

I my friend from Santiago, Chile said for you to contact the Benedictine Christians. They would welcome you and do what they could to assist. I won’t be able to join you on any leg of the trip due to needing surgery but I am going to Casa de Los Amigos in December. I have been in communication with Jorge Martinez. Where are you now? Take care. See below for three links.

I have done a search for them in Chile through Google and I found this blogger who is working with them right now. http://dainchile.blogspot.com/

At the end of this newsletter at the link is a possible contact # of someone who is in communications with the Chile group.http://www.osb.org/aba/news/2007/junb.html

  16. REQUEST: Dear Rolene,
It is the Year of Service (August 2009 - May 2010) on my community college campus. We are poor but we are capable of raising funds. If we were able to raise funds to fly you here to Los Angeles and have a family put you up for your stay, would you speak to our students? We might be able to raise funds to get you here in sometime in February or March of next year. First, I need to know if you would be willing to come and some possible dates of your availability.

  17. Hello Josh and Rolene!

I’ve called and tried to contact you through the email but it was sent back in error and I haven’t been contacted back.

My name is Jacqueline Shyu and I wanted to know if you are still accepting people to walk. I live in the St. Francis Square apartments that Rolene lives and heard about this non profit through my little sister who went to the meet when she was back for her sons wedding.

I will be able to start next year around mid-end of february or march. I know they should be ending there journey around april but i still wanted to walk and see how and what your doing in south america and how you are helping. In January I’ll be going through a Permaculture sustainable certificated course for 2 weeks which im really excited about! Im hoping it will help me to help out with your non profit as well.

Please get back to me and let me know if walking is still a possibility! After I will be staying in South America for a couple months so if you have any suggestions on what i should do for when i purchase my airplane ticket that would be great!

    Thank You,
    JackiE Shyu
