Letter of Introduction for Rolene Walker from Religious Society of Friends, (Quakers)

Dear Friend,
Please allow this letter to introduce to you our friend, Rolene Walker. She is a member in good standing of the San Francisco, California, Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, better known as Quakers.Through Walk With Earth, Rolene and numerous traveling companions will walk from California to Chile starting in February 2008. Rolene founded Walk With Earth, a small non-profit, to remind ourselves that the earth is sacred space, and that all living beings are beloved of God.Adults in the United States have done a good job of letting young people know the earth and her species are in trouble; we haven’t done such a good job of letting them know there are Divine options for ameliorating degraded environments. More than political parties or agendas, Rolene believes, we need a spiritual revival of seeing the earth as part of God’s creation and ourselves as co-creators.Rolene and others will walk from North America to Chile to celebrate the beauty of the earth—deeply connecting with the earth and her people by engaging in the ancient art of walking pilgrimages starting in spring 2008. This pilgrimage along the Pan Pacific Highway will give physical expression to the connections between people of diverse backgrounds sharing conjoined continents. It will be a witness to the increasing crisis the earth itself suffers. It will be a walking community, sharing deeply with people along the way, and learning to deeply appreciate the incredible beauty of the western hemisphere. Our meeting recognizes that Rolene has been given a leading in this walk. We have watched this grow from an idea to a calling, to a real-life experience. We recognize that, in the words of the Walk with Earth organization she founded, Rolene feels called to listen deeply to the still, small voice of God that we may know God’s will for our lives. Called to listen deeply to the peoples of the world, that we may know how to live well in community. Called to listen deeply to the natural world, that we might live in harmony and balance. We join Rolene in listening to that call. We wish Rolene and her walking companions a safe and faithful journey in the love and light of God. We will hold her and the walk in the Light. May these words be a reminder of our love and friendship, and of God’s love and friendship, on the long road ahead.Thank you for your loving care of Rolene and her companions—and of the Earth itself. We welcome your endorsement of this letter or an attachment as a record of Rolene’s journey. In peace and friendship,Chris Mohr, Clerk San Francisco, California, Monthly Meeting Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)25th Feb

Letter from Rev. John Telesfore, Rector, Cathedral of St. Mary

This Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings from the Cathedral Chruch of the Archdiocese of San Francisco in California. Among the many statements His Holiness Pople Benedict XIV has made about our Catholic concern for the environment, he recently wrote: “Preservation of the environment, promotion of sustainable development and particular attention to climate change are matters of grave concern for the entire human family. No nation or business sector can ignore the ethcial implications present in all economic and social development. With increasing clarity scientific research demonstrates that the impact of human actions in any one place or region can have worldwide effects. The consequences of disregard for the environment cannot be limited to an immediate area or populous because they always harm human coexistence, and thus betray human dignity and violate the rights of citizens who desire to live in a safe enviroment”. In that spirit, this letter comes as an introduction to Rolene Walker, a member of the Quaker Meeting here in San Francisco, and her companions, who will be walking in your area to promote a heightened consciousness of such environmental issues, to begin exploring ways to do things togehter as a common people across the Americas to restore balance to the six mile wide biosphere we live in. Commending Rolene and her companions to your kind hospitality and commending you to Saint Francis of Assisi, our Patron Saint and friend of creation, I am Sincerely yours in Christ Rev. John Telesfore Pastor and Rector 25th Feb

Letter of Introduction from Margarita Diaz, Projecto Fronterizo de Educacion Ambiental

Estimado/a Amigo/a,
